WOYWW #178 - Hopping Mad!

Fear not my fellow Workdesk Wednesdayer’s, I’m not hopping mad about anything at all really but it’s an appropriate blog title, you’ll see what I mean in a minute.

As you know, it’s desk visiting day over at the The Stamping Ground and Julia is waiting patiently for everyone to link a picture of their work spaces as she does every Wednesday, so without further ado, here’s mine.

I’m still working on layouts.

The one of my brother that I was working on last week is now finished and on My Heritage Blog  and I’ve also put on another page of  Mum & Dad’s Wedding, which you’ve may have already seen on here when I was working on it,  but it never made it to the other blog.

The one I’m working on now is actually a remake of the very first double page LO I ever created.

I was never very happy with these originally LOs, the papers were of poor quality and my artistic flare was nowhere to be seen as you can tell, so I decided I would do the two pages again using some of the original embelishments, including the journaling tag I made and now I’m happy with it I think.

The pages are of my Great Grand Mother and her extended family on their annual jaunt to the hop fields of Kent, hence my blog post heading.

The photos are from various years, my dad was seven in the one of him in the hop bines, so that was taken in 1930 and at least one of the others was from 1951 so the family tradition carried on for many years.

The finished pages are   on my other blog too, together with a first-hand account from my 2nd cousin Roy Jenner who’s featured in the photo from 1951.
In it he recounts one of their train journeys down to Goudhurst from London.

It’s well worth a read if you get a minute because it really does give you a feel for the era.
Roy lives out in Auckland now and is a talented crime writer, in fact the book I’m reading of his at the moment,   'There’s No Hiding Place'  is set in London and Goudhurst in Kent!

Well that’s it for another week.

I’ll be by tomorrow to see what you’re all up to as I’m out on my broomstick tonight, Lol!
Happy Halloween and
Happy Crafting!

Sue

I’m sat reading my WOYWW blogs on my sick bed this week but have my mask on so you don’t catch anything. I’m enjoying reading what everyone is up to this week [it's better than reading magazines :-) ]. I’m leaving a copied comment so you know I’ve called by because my hands are too weak and shaky to keep typing out my comments this week.
Big hugs,
A x #90

Hope you've passed your broomstick flying test, Sue. We don't want any nasty accidents.
It's funny looking back at old LO's isn't it. You realise how much your style has changed. I love the reworked pages and those photos are amazing, so much history.
Happy WOYWW

I love the LO with the old photos - the hop picking shots look like something out of Darling Buds of May!!
The key episode was frustrating but hey ho, these things happen!
Thanks for dropping by :)

Oh Sue I love it! I went to your other link and read what you recounted about the hops picking. From about 1956 to 1962 I can remember my family traveling to California to work harvesting the fruits and vegetables and living in communal housing. Time was rough and people went where there were jobs to be had. Love the old LO but the new LO definitely shows your style and shine! My tricksters loved the pencil and non candy treats in the basket so much it sent me off to the store to buy more for next year at 50% off. Thanks for popping in for a visit at my blog. Have a good Guy Falkes. Do you celebrate? Thanks for sharing. Vickie #37

Lovely seeing your old family photos, Sue. My mind is full of mine at the moment, having been scannng so many of them! Isn't it fun seeing our ancestors' lives captured in these little monochrome rectangles... I haven't any plans to make mine into layouts, but I may make a mini-album or two to display them.

Thanks for your lovely comment - the uravelling of knitting can be done in front of the TV and is quite relaxing in a funny sort of way! The wool does hsve to be prepared before it can be re-knitted though - washing to take out all the kinks, which means skeining first, then balling up afterwards ready for knitting. Lots of work, but so worth it in the end! That dress will now have a new lease of life.

Happy belated WOYWW,
