A Rhapsody in Blue…………..and err, Green!

As mentioned on Wednesday I have been playing with my beads this week and wanted to make some extra bits to go with a set I brought in M & S………namely earrings for my holiday.

I really love these colours together but there was very little in the shop to go with it so I decided on buying an extra set, which was duly taken to pieces and with the help of a few beads and findings from my stash I managed to put together another necklace (actually not sure about that one) a bracelet and five pairs of earrings.

Thanks for stopping by.

To Bead Or Not To Bead - WOYWW #202

That is the question!

And the answer.................most definitely yes, as you can see on my table today.

If you’re wondering why on earth I’m showing you my table, it’s because it’s Wednesday and that that means it’s  What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday.
Follow the link to Julia’s blog, you can join in too.

Anyway, back to my desk and a complete change of direction for me this week.

I’ve been looking out for some Blue and Green costume Jewellery for my holiday and while I was out shopping a week or so ago I came across the almost perfect set in M & S. A necklace and bracelet in just the right shades, but I say almost perfect because I was also looking for a couple of pairs of earrings to match and couldn’t find anything.

In the end extravagance got the better of me and I ended up buying two sets of the Jewellery , only to pull one set apart to make the said earrings and possibly another bracelet or two.

You’ll notice from the picture that I’ve also pulled out some Blue and Green beads from my stash, which I’ll try and incorporate into the bracelets.

I’ve hit a problem though and am not making very much progress at the moment because on looking through my bead box I realised that I don’t have any small jump rings, so I may need to pop to Hobby craft or The Range before I can actually finish them off, but as you can see I’ve got two pairs of ‘dangles’ ready and waiting to be attached to the findings.

I did also managed a couple of cards this week.

First, the 60th Birthday card I was about to start on last week for a friend.

I think the birthday boy liked it and the celebration meal on Saturday evening went down well……..especially the cupcakes that his daughters gave him!

The second card is very simple design that I've made loads of times and is very versatile.  It's for my Goddaughters birthday tomorrow.

Well, that’s it for another week, I’ll be stopping by your desk later to see what you’ve been up to.

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your comments, I love reading them all.

Happy Crafting!

Clear Desk Policy - WOYWW #201

Well what a week I’ve had……..No Crafting and that Llindt Chocolate Bunny is ‘still’ sitting on the side, intact and waiting to be munched upon.

Can’t tell you how hard it’s been to stop myself biting off an ear, but I know it wouldn’t do my any good at the moment because the chest infection really took hold, so I’ve had to be good. Even the antibiotics that I’ve been on don’t seem to have shifted it much and I really don’t like this feeling of shortness of breath. Hopefully a change in the weather (they promise 70 degrees in the next couple of days) will have me feeling better and more in the mood for crafting.

What I have done though is spent lots of time on my stitching and you can see my progress over at  I’d Rather Be Stitchin’.

In fact it’s that you can see at the back of my desk today because I was taking a photo of it for my monthly TUSAL (don’t know what a TUSAL is…..all will be explained if you follow the link above)

Apart from that my desk is almost clear except for my scales and some bubble wrap I was using to pack up some of the things I sold on ebay last week. Thanks if you were amongst the people who followed my link last week and bid on anything. If you did I hope you were one of the lucky ones because there were some great bargains to be had. I have to say I was very pleased indeed as I listed around 70 items and sold all but 10 of them.

OK, I really need to get down and make a 60th birthday card now which needs to be in the post tomorrow, so please forgive me if I don’t get around to desk hopping until tomorrow, but needs must as they say.

To join in with WOYWW and to find out what it’s all about if you’ve never heard about it, can I suggest that you go visit The Stamping Ground. where Julia has all the details and keeps us all in check each week.

See’s you all later.

Happy Crafting!

Sort Out ….Part 2! - WOYWW #200

Good morning to all my fellow What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday’ers,.

I hope you are all fighting fit and ready for our weekly desk hop after a nice long weekend of eating chocolate eggs.

I was unable to eat my Llindt Bunny because I came down with the lurgy on Saturday evening, sore throat, cough and later a runny nose and now I have a chest infection so chocolate really wouldn’t be the right thing to be eating at the moment.

I did manage to get a few things done over the weekend thought and had a lovely card making session yesterday, which I really enjoyed. It’s great that the fun’s back now the pressure is off.

So, this my desk as it is now, just the way I left it last night.

You can see a little pile of cards at the back, all made from my G.C.D Studios ‘Ella Blue pad. I just love these papers, nice quality, double sided linen textured and a beautiful combination of Blue’s Brown’s and a tiny bit of Green…….really yummy if you ask me.

There’s also the usual paraphernalia including Embossing folders, stamps, distress inks………shall I go on…..I’m sure you get the drift.

Also this weekend I’ve carried on with my big crafty sort out and managed to get most of my dies onto ebay. If anyone’s interested there’s still a few bargains to be had if you fancy a look. I I still have a load more stuff to go on later.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/budrose7/m.html?item=171015862578&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

I’m keeping it short and sweet this week as I’m just about to go out the door but I’ll be back later and will be dropping by to see that you’ve been up to,………so stand by your desks! Not literally, Lol.

And if by any chance there’s anyone out there who hasn’t a clue what WOYWW is all about, may I suggest it’s about time you did. Hop across to Julia’s pad at   The Stamping Ground.  and you can join in with the other 179 crafters who played along last week. Amazing isn’t it….all those people with nothing better to do than desk hop! See you all later.

Happy Crafting!

Sort Out - WOYWW #199

Each week it amazes me that our weekly blog hop is growing bigger and bigger, with 170 wonderful crafters joining in with What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday, hosted by the lovely Julia over at The Stamping Ground. Just goes to show what a fun and sociable group of people us crafters are!

I’m hoping that this week on my desk visits I don’t come across too many friends that are having difficulties because of all the snow. The pictures on the TV are almost unbelievable and I don’t think I can ever remember a snowfall like that before.

My desk this week has nothing much at all on it other than a load of old Quickutz dies that I’m sorting out to put on ebay.

I’ve not used them for ages and all they do is collect dust in the cupboard, so I figured I’d try and sell some and use the money to buy some things I’m more likely to use, so if you’re into die cutting keep a look out over the weekend because there may be a few of the discontinued sort after ones in amongst them.

There’s not much else on the table to talk about really, just a mug of coffee and something to keep my neck warm………….it’s freezing sitting by this window sometimes.

So that’s it for another week.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter ………not too much chocolate now.

Happy Crafting!

Out of my Comfort Zone - WOYWW #198

Good morning my lovely blogging friends.

It’s that day again and Julia is ready and waiting over at the The Stamping Ground for you to add your name to Mr Linky ( if you haven’t already) and then be prepared for the influx of crafters, all eager to snoop on your work space.

For some reason I’m only managing to join in every couple of weeks at the moment. No idea really why that is but hopefully it will change soon and I’ll be here ‘full time’. I don’t know about you but I get withdrawal symptoms when I miss a week.

So what’s been happening is Sue’s Krafty Kards work room this week…………….well a combination of knitting, stitching and a little bit of paper crafting and here’s what was on my desk when I let it last night.

I thought I had better make a start on the ATC’s for the WOYWW birthday swap……talk about out of my comfort zone. I’ve only every made them once before and that was for last year’s swap, so I was in panic mode when I started because of the small area I was working on.

You can see from the picture that I had various shades of Pink and Mauve Distress Inks out as well as some stamps and dies but don’t think for a minute that you can guess what I’m doing because within an hour of taking that photo I over did things a little and it was beyond salvaging so it all ended up in the bin.
I then started from scratch with something completely different and I think I’m happy with the results but you’ll have to wait until the swap to see them.

I mentioned that I’ve been knitting again and have made two more little cardigans for my Goddaughter’s bump. Her mum told me that she’s not shy of bold colours, which I’m not sure about for a new baby and colour choice isn’t made easier when we don’t know what she’s expecting, so I decided on this lovely shade of Green.

All it needs are some buttons and it’s done.

The second one I made with the left overs from the Green and the Cream one I made a couple of weeks ago and that’s just waiting on buttons too.

And so to the cross stitch and yes, I’ve finally made a start on Celtic Autumn, yah!

Luckily there’s no time frame, because I’m a slow stitcher and you’ll see what I mean when I tell you that this is the progress after 13 hours and 50 minutes.

(Opps.....looks like I need to get the iron out!)

I don’t normally keep account of how long a project takes me to stitch but someone on another blog I follow stitched her recently and it took a total of 83 hours, that was 72 hours stitching and 11 hours beading so I thought I’d see how long she takes me.

So that’s it for another week.

I’ll be calling by later to see what you’re all up too, so get that mug of coffee ready for me.

Happy Crafting!

Disorganized- WOYWW #196

Oh crikey, it was only when saw that Annie had left me a comment this morning that I realized it was Wednesday. and time to show you all what’s on my desk.

Well, I thought it was Tuesday today, so I’m not ready and I think it might have something to do with the beautiful T-shirt weather we had yesterday.  I made the most of it by jet washing one of the patio’s and now seem to have lost a day.

Still, there’s no getting away from it, it is Wednesday and time to share what’s on my table with Julia over at The Stamping Ground and the rest of the What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday mob.

To be honest, I’ve not been in my craft room much since last week and my table has become a bit of a dumping ground again.

The LO that I was about to start last week is still on the table unfinished…….almost there but not quite.

The ‘Blue’ ribbon box is out because I was looking for some matching ribbon but to no avail. You’d think with a box that sized there be something in there that would match, wouldn’t you, but no such luck so I lost interest and just left it laying there.

Sitting on top of that on my table is the little cardigan I’ve knitting for my god daughter’s new edition when it arrives, which is just waiting for some buttons. I’ve gone for 3 -6 months size ready for the winter months and I’m doing a little cabled hat and booties to match.

That’s about it really, but before I go I have one last thing to share.

Jo has made some lovely ‘Star Stitcher’ awards for the girls who have been making the quilts for the LillyBo Quilt Project using the cards I’ve been making and bless her, she’s made a special one for me because I don’t sew, how sweet was that.

If you click on the one on my side bar it will take you straight to the LillyBo Blog, where you can see all the quilts, bags and toys that have been sent already, so do pop across and have a little look because they are all beautiful.

Thanks for stopping by this week and I’ll see you later when I pop in for coffee, Lol.

Happy Crafting!

Up, Up & Away - WOYWW #195

It’s yet another cold, dull and dreary Wednesday morning but the bright ray of sunshine comes from the fact it’s the day I visit my  What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday  friends.
The mess……sorry, I mean creativeness on their desks always brings a smile and brightens my day , I can tell you!

My week has mostly consisted of a little paper crafting and a lot of cross stitching and here’s what’s on my desk this morning.

I finally managed to sorted out some papers to scrap the photo of my big brother and ended up buying a First Edition ‘Up, Up & Away pad, not particularly vintage looking I know, but I just loved the colour combination and decided to go with it. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet on the LO but so far done some fussy cutting of the circle in the corner and have decoupaged it. I just need to sort out some embellishments and hopefully I’ll be up and running.

The only other paper crafting this week has been a few more cards for the   LillyBo Quilt Project  and they will be going in the post this morning.

I also think these are perfect to enter into Di’s 'Pixies Crafty Snippets' challenge as I’ve used up loads of offcuts for them as well as odd pieces of ribbon.

Stitching wise, I made a concerted effort to finish off the ‘Time and Season’ s sampler and I’m happy to report that the last stitch went in on Saturday evening. You can see the finished piece over at I’d Rather Be Stitchin’.

I had a load of threads left over from the sampler and decided to use them for another sampler, a much smaller one this time, and started on in straight away………it’s funny how I can’t be without a bit of cross stitch on the go……….and this is where I got to last night.

Just the word April to add and then that one’s done too and I’ll be ready to start my next Celtic Lady.

If you stop by my stitching blog please take the time to leave a message, I love to read your comments and I’ll be by to call in on you soon.

Have a great day and ………..

Happy Crafting!

- WOYWW #193

Is it really Wednesday again?

Are you absolute sure?

If you’re positive, then I guess I have to show you a picture of my table for What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

Julia’s blog has all the details you need to join in, so hop across and add your name to Mr. Linky and then wait for all the nosey parkers……I mean likeminded crafters to call in for coffee.

I've had a busy week working on some Cross Stitch and finishing of the shawl I was knitting but if you remember, when you visited me last week I was just about to make a start on a LO for my heritage album.
Well, I finished that and also did a little alteration on an old LO of some of my school photos, so if you want a laugh.......school photos are always good for a laugh........you can see both LO's over on my Heritage Blog.

Here’s my table this morning.

After seeing the speed at which the quilts are rolling in for Jo’s LillyBo quilt project, which by the way are all beautiful, I thought I’d better make some more cards because she's going to be running low very soon, so that’s what I’ve been making this morning.

There’s eight sitting at the back of the table waiting to be finished off and Jo said she really liked the hexagon ones, so I’m hoping to do some more of them a little later in the week.

The problem with those though is that I had to hand cut all the pieces, so they took me ages to make. I’ve ordered a die now, so I’m just waiting for it to arrive and it should make it all a lot quicker and easier.
As soon as they are done I’ll send them off to join this little lot that were sent a week or so ago.

You can see then in more detail on the LillyBo Blog

You’ll have noticed there’s no little helper on my table this morning…….that’s because he’s here………all curled up in my sewing basket on the sofa.

I think he’s decided that it’s too cold outside, so as I’m not sitting stitching, he's had his breakfast and moved in on my basket.

Well that’s from me for now.
I’m taking my neighbor to hospital this afternoon for the first check up after having a cataract removed, so I’ll see you all later.

Happy Crafting!

Back in the Old School Yard

This is a page I made a while back.

It's been out for a spot of retouching because the double sided tape I used to stick the journaling down had started to show through the paper and needed to be replaced, but while it is out I thought I would show you these mugshots of me taken during my school years.

I’m not keen on having my photo taken even now and I guess it goes back a long, long way because I can clearly remember really crying on one occasion when the photographer came to visit my Infants school. It took the teachers ages to get me to stop and in a state that looked photogenic. I might add that the said photo isn’t amongst the ones I’ve scrapped here.

I’ve attempted to make the page look a little like a Black Board and the colours represent the colours of my school uniforms.

You might also notice that I’ve given myself 10 out of 10 and a Gold Star, Lol!

You can read a little more about Sue Hyde's school days over at Family Footprints In The Sands Of Time.

My first scrapbook layout of the year ………and it’s of Me!

As you can see, I’ve completed the LO for my heritage album that I was about to start on Wednesday, it’s just about finished, although I’m considering adding a little charm or something just under where I’ve put my date of birth. Not that I have one yet, so I’m off to see what I can find.

If you hop across to Family Footprints in the Sands of Time you can read all about me.

I have to say though, that as I read it back to myself I thought I sound like a sad lonely sole but I promise you I’m not, honest, Lol.

Happy Crafting!

Maybe Baby - WOYWW #192

Just when you think the weather has changed for the better and Spring is just around the corner, it changes again and it seems we are back in the grips of Winter. We’ve been lucky again though down in the South East, as we’ve managed to miss the worst of the snow but it’s turned really cold again and I don’t like it………..I need some warmth and sunshine! Winge over and on with my day I guess.

My aim for today is to start a new page for my Heritage Album and I only plan to step outside the door at around midday when I go swimming. I did 32 lengths last week, that’s half a mile, and I hope to do the same today.

But back to my LO and the picture of my desk for What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday over at Julia’s blog ‘The Stamping Ground’ shows all the bits and pieces that I’ve pulled out ready to start my planning.

You can see two photos in the picture.

The one at the back is my brother Michael who now 63. Obviously that’s not the one I’m going to attempt to scrap today …….can’t see him in Pink somehow, Lol, but he will be the next to be done when I find some suitable papers.

This is the one I’m going to do and it’s me playing Peek-a-boo. I think I was about four or five months old there but I’m sure.

While we’re on the subject of baby’s I think it’s safe to say now that the shawl I was knitting is for my Goddaughter Nichola and her husband Paul, who are expecting their first in July.

The knitting is coming along fine and I flew through the centre panels but the edging is taking a life time. Admittedly I had a little break from it and went back to my cross stitch for about a week but so far I’ve just knitted enough to go around two sides and little bit more and it takes 32 patterns per side, so there’s still lots to do.

OK, that’s it from me for another week. I’ll be popping along this afternoon when I get back from swimming to see what everyone is up to this week, so get the Hot Chocolate on for me because the pool was a little chilly last week!

Happy Crafting!

Would you believe it…..just as I was about to start on the LO my furry friend, BoJangles put in an appearance and decided to hinder….I mean help.
Don’t you just love him, Lol!

WOYWW # 190

I hope all my WOYWW friends have managed to stay safe and warm this week, with all this White stuff around.

I actually love the snow, but what I don’t like is the icy and lays under the soft snow on the pavements making it treacherous to walk. BoJangles wasn’t too impressed either and I had to laugh as I watched him make is way around the edge of the patio and under the bench where the snow hadn’t settled until he could go no further. He then gingerly put his front paws in it, decided it was too cold and made B-Line straight back in, where he stayed in front of the radiator for the rest of the day………what a life!

Still, the snow is a very good reason to stay inside in the warm, grab a steaming cup of coffee and visit a few of my crafty friends who hang out at The Stamping Ground on Wednesdays to show what’s on their desks.

Mine this week has the remnants of my very first card making session of the year.

As you can see, I’ve been making some little gift cards for the LillyBo Quilt Project that Jo has started.

I know exactly where Jo was coming from when she decided she wanted to do this project because I felt the same when I lost my dad back in 2010 and we made Quilts For The Hospice that cared for him, so when Jo asked for help I was only too happy to hold up my hand.  But as you’ve heard me say many times before on here, I’m absolutely useless with a sewing machine, so I’ve offered to made gift cards to go with each of the quilts instead.

Have to say, these are a great way of using up all my scraps!

No photo of my knitting this week, but it’s coming along nicely and I’m a little ahead of where I expected to be.
The first two quarters of the shawl took a week each do but as I’m beginning to remember the pattern I must be knitting faster because I finished the other two quarters last week and have now made a start on the edging which is 20 stitches at its widest part and has to go right around the outside, so it might take some time to finish.

Stay warm and……………..

Happy Crafting!

WOYWW #189 - Knitty Nora!

I’ll come clean right at the offset this week and own up to the fact that my work table is set up for this photo, but at least it gave me the reason to clear all the toot that had accumulated over the last two weeks off of it.

Luckily or unluckily, depending on how you view it, I haven’t done any paper crafting for a couple of weeks because I came down with that nasty little winter sickness and tummy bug, so I didn’t need to use the table .It was just as well because I had a new integrated fridge freezer put in yesterday and had to move a lot of stuff from the kitchen to give them room to work in and empty the old one…….. and where did that end up……you’ve guessed it….in my craft room!

I’m feeling much better now though, so this morning I decided it was time to get straight again and decided that I would show you how my knitting is coming along.

So here’s what’s on my Workdesk this week.

I’ve managed to finish two of the four pieces that make up the centre of the baby’s shawl and I’m working on the third part now.
At this rate of knitting it should be finished in a couple of weeks………I don’t knit fast and the old hands are not as supple as they used to be.

By the time we meet again next week I hope to have made some cards to show you because I still haven’t made my Thank You cards yet, but now the table is clear I’ve no excuse, so keep a look out.

If you want to see what on other peoples work surfaces, as I'm about to do after grabbing a cup of coffee, then call in on Julia over at The Stamping Ground and join in with What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

Happy Crafting!

WOYWW # 187 Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you all.

So here we all are in 2013 and I hope all my fellow WOYWW’ers from over at The Stamping Ground are fighting fit after the revelry of your New Year’s celebrations and are ready for another year of reveling what’s lurking on your work space.

I myself had a rather quiet Christmas but made up for it New Year’s Eve, when eight of us booked into a local hotel. We spent the afternoon enjoying the use of their pool and Jacuzzi and then it was a snack and drinkies in the bar before getting ready for a five course meal later in the evening and then partying until 1.30 in the morning. I’ve not done that for many, many years and the old body is still protesting about all the exercise it was put through….don’t know where I ache most, Lol, but we had a fantastic time.

Now, knowing that I’ve decided to step back from the card making a bit in 2013, I didn’t ask Santa for any new stash., but my table does have something new on it.

I mentioned a while back that seeing everyone’s knitting popping up everywhere was giving me itchy fingers again, not that I’ve knitted in over twenty years, and I began to think it might be nice to have a bit on the go myself.

But what to knit?

The answer to that came just before Christmas when news of a new baby reached my ears….can’t say to much about it at the moment because she hasn’t announced it to everyone yet, but it was my excuse to get the needled clicking.

So as usual I was in at the deep end…….

and I’m knitting a 3ply shawl……….that should keep me quite for a little while!

Despite not asking Santa for any paper craft stash he did actually did fetch me something crafty after all. This lovely lot……..

This will be my next large cross stitch project and she’ll be my fourth of the Celtic Ladies, Celtic Autumn.

There are still a few of the Needlepaints and silks to come because I’m guessing Santa didn’t have room on his sleigh for them but I have everything else I need to get started on it as soon as I finish the Sampler which is coming along nicely.  Ive stitched quite a bit more than when that picture was taken.  The whole botton is done now and I'm working on the top left-hand quater.

Well, that’s all there is to see on your first visit in 2013 to my work desk.
I’ll be along in the next few days to see what you’re up to but I doubt it will be tomorrow as I’m off to the pictures to see The Hobbit.

Thanks for popping by and ………….

Happy Crafting!

We Wish You A Merry Christmas!

Well, I guess I don’t have to tell you that I’ve been a really bad blogger of late.
In fact the last time I blogged was the 14th November, so I thought it was about time I got on here and told you what I’ve been up to in that time.

I have still been crafting.
You know, the usual Christmas card orders, personal Christmas cards, presents, wrappings and tags but my time management has been rubbish and I’ve not taken photos of any of it before posting it out, so I had no pictures to share.

At the start of December I had a little trip away.

My friend Sandy and I thought we would chance the German Christmas markets again this year. It was a little daunting after the horror of last year when my cousin had a stroke on our first evening away and what started out as a three day break turned into a three week one but this year the trip was uneventful and we managed to come home with the rest of our friends on the coach. Jane decided that she wouldn’t come with us this time, which I can fully understand but she’s making good progress, so hopefully she’ll be feeling a bit braver next year.

We couldn’t visit Rüdesheim without partaking of a Rüdesheim coffee, now could we!

I’ve also made a really big decision in the time I’m been away.

It’s taken me a while, but I’ve finally decided to finish up the business side of Sue’s Krafty Cards, so as of the end of the year I’ll no longer be self-employed.

It’s a bit of a relief if I’m honest, because I always seemed to be working to a tight schedule. More often than not the orders were given to me at the very last minute and it had got to the stage that what started out as an enjoyable hobby was no longer a pleasure any more.

I’ll still be making personal cards and will spend more time on my heritage album which has been badly neglected but I also want to get back into my stitching more and dig out my crochet hooks because I have a baby’s shawl to make, so I’ll still be around.

Anyway, the main point of this post was that I wanted to take this opportunity to wish all my lovely followers, friends from to What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday and everyone else who visits my little corner of blog land, a Wonderful Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

I’ll leave you with a few photos of my Living room.

This is my crystal Penguin from Tiffany, New York

The picture is 'Oh Christmas Tree', one of my counted cross stitch projects that comes out every year.  Here's a Closer Look at it.

Here's another of my counted cross stitch projects, 'Celtic Christmas'. For a closer look See Here.
